Job summary

SGS is seeking a Fire Assay Technician for a drive-in/drive-out assignment from Winnipeg, MB to Red Lake, ON. You'll perform Fire Assay techniques, work 12-hour shifts including days and overnights, with accommodation and meals per diem.

The role requires at least a high school diploma and up to 1 year of lab experience; you will use Word, Excel, CCLAS and Oracle, maintain logs, follow quality protocols, and coordinate with teams in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant laboratory experience preferred or equivalent lab experience through education.
• Able to read, understand and follow work instructions safely and accurately.
• Proficient with Word, Excel, CCLAS, and Oracle.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Time management and attention to detail; able to work under pressure.
• Comfortable working with ovens and in high-temperature environments.
• Willing to travel to other SGS locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform Fire Assay techniques, such as fluxing, fusing, and cupelling samples according to written procedures.
• Carry out routine equipment maintenance under direction of supervisor.
• Complete and maintain accurate work order documentation, fusion sheets and logs.
• Follow all Quality system protocols and report discrepancies to Supervisor.
• Maintain a clean work environment and proper disposal of crucibles, cupels and fire assay lead wastes.
• Organize and label waste disposal.
• May be asked to work in other areas of the Geochemistry laboratory sections when required.
• May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.
• Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
