Job description

Our Thunder Bay location is hiring a Fire Assay Technician to work 12-hour shifts on a 4 days on, 4 days off rotational schedule. The shifts will be from 8 AM - 8 PM or 8 PM - 8 AM.

This entry-level position reports to the shift Team Lead and involves working under supervision in the Fire Assay area. The technician will be responsible for maintaining tools and instruments used in the operation.

Responsibilities:
  • Work safely and efficiently, following all health and safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with the supervisor on work priorities.
  • Set up fusion batches, sort and clean pots, and dry cupels.
  • Perform Fire Assay techniques such as fluxing, fusing, de-slagging, and cupelling according to SOPs.
  • Maintain quality control and production logs.
  • Dispose of crucibles, cupels, and lead waste residues properly.
  • Conduct QC inspections of samples and equipment.
  • Follow quality protocols and report discrepancies.
  • Assist in other laboratory areas as needed.
  • Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience as a general labourer is an asset.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and ability to stand for long periods.
  • Ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and work in hot, dusty conditions.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions accurately and safely.
  • Must be able to wear PPE properly, including respirators.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Flexibility to work day shifts on a 4 on, 4 off rotation.

This role involves standing, sitting, lifting, and working in an industrial environment. Manual dexterity is essential for repetitive tasks. PPE is mandatory, and work will be conducted near fusion furnaces in hot conditions. The position demands working under pressure with tight deadlines.

Note: Periodic blood testing for lead exposure will be required.
