Job summary

ALS is seeking a detail-oriented lab analyst in North Vancouver to independently conduct analyses of geological samples, fusion, and cupellation. The role is a 6-month contract with potential extension, offering a dynamic work environment and strict adherence to safety procedures.

You will manage crucibles, perform fusion and cupellation with furnace tools, and maintain schedules while ensuring analytical quality and compliance with procedures. Shift flexibility and weekend work are required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of High School Education required.
  • Diploma or Degree in Science preferred.
  • Laboratory experience in a production-oriented environment would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with fire assay methods is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Crucible management and set up/prepare samples for fusion.
  • Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools.
  • Ensure all safe work procedures and standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Maintain cleaning and maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure analytical quality per established procedures.
  • Observe safety regulations and ALS policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About the Position:
  • This position is a temporary 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension based on business needs**

Independently conducts routine and non-routine analyses of geological samples, fusion, and cupellation.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Crucible management and set up/prepare samples for fusion;
  • Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools;
  • Ensure all safe work procedures and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to;
  • Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are complete;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Familiarity with all fire assay methods and their respective digestion volumes and finish methods;
  • Strong analytical and mechanical skills;
  • Organized and highly motivated individual;
  • Detail-oriented individual;
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
  • Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time-critical issues;
  • Basic English communication skills
  • Safety oriented.
Required Qualifications:

Physical Demands:
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs;
  • Able to work within a hot and dusty environment;
  • Must be willing to comply with the following H&S requirements:
  • Be clean-shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator);
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  • Shower before the end of each shift;
  • Undergo a lead blood test required every six months;
  • Able to stand for a full shift;
  • Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work, including weekends.

  • An estimated hourly pay of $24.02 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
