Summary

The Fire Alarm Technician will report to the Regional Operations Manager. In this role, the Fire Alarm Technician will be responsible for completing code-compliant testing and inspections. Additionally, assessing risks, reporting, and proposing possible solutions on topics related to fire prevention in compliance with the ULC, NFC, NFPA and other regulatory requirements. They will liaise between building occupants, facility managers, and various stakeholders with BGIS.

This role will work in collaboration with all key BGIS departments to ensure full support of all activities and play a key role in our INTEGRATED approach to operating buildings.

LICENSES AND/OR PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION

  1. Completion of Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA)
  2. Drivers license is required.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Inspect facilities, ensuring compliance with the applicable codes and regulations. Creating action plans and recommendations to resolve any issues related to Fire Life safety compliance requirements, i.e. emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, fire doors/separations, and fire alarm systems, etc.
  2. Inspects Fire Alarm systems and components as required by regulatory requirements for compliance and completes required repairs as necessary.
  3. Analyzes the causes of fire alarms and trouble calls, following up and communicating with stakeholders to provide solutions.
  4. Communicating with building occupants and stakeholders to address or escalate their concerns.
  5. Provides the necessary support with the main client of the building and assists in the coordination of evacuation plans.
  6. Assists the property management team and various stakeholders with fire and life safety support/training as required.
  7. As required, actively participates in project requirements meetings and takes responsibility for the areas of their expertise.
  8. Other duties as required.

Knowledge & Skills

  1. College diploma in Fire Protection or equivalent.
  2. Completion of Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification.
  3. Ability to communicate technical and non-technical information clearly.
  4. Various levels of job-related experience will be considered.
  5. Have a good knowledge of fire and life safety practices, as well as related codes/regulations and authorities having jurisdiction.
  6. Good interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to self-start working individually and/or work in teams.
  8. Ability to interpret and analyze data.
  9. Strong communication skills, including written, comprehension and verbal.
  10. Problem-solving skills.
  11. Fire Alarm Technician experience working in a commercial environment would be an asset.
