Job description

Preference will be given to qualified regular part-time employees within the Part Time Support Staff bargaining unit at Sheridan College. Should a suitable candidate not be found, external candidates will be considered.

The incumbent plays a key role in tracking and reporting on expenditures, actual vs budget, and provides organizational, clerical, and administrative support within Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS). Reporting to the Associate Director, Operations, the incumbent assists with developing and monitoring CAPS’ budgets, including but not limited to; purchasing, payroll, reconciling expenses against budget, invoicing, financial reporting and analysis. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring accurate data in financial reporting. The incumbent helps organize and co-ordinate projects and supports the Manager, Finance and Business Operations with other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Creating, maintaining and updating relevant financial tracking tools;
  • Preparing budgets and reports;
  • Maintaining accurate financial records;
  • Providing financial analysis and generating invoices;
  • Tracking and maintaining costs for reconciliation, reporting and invoicing;
  • Completing monthly reports by reconciling project costs, operating expenses, salary, and budget versus actual;
  • Developing spreadsheets and templates which may be used in reports to funders, event expenditure tracking, etc.;
  • Creating and tracking purchase requisitions using PeopleSoft Financial;
  • Maintaining CAPS asset inventory;
  • Liaising with other Sheridan departments and external partners to resolve queries and provide information;
  • Composing correspondence and completing document formatting as required, including presentations;
  • Attending meetings, preparing agendas and taking minutes;
  • Assisting with planning and coordination of program related special events and;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

You have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Your collaborative spirit is balanced with your ability to take initiative and act independently to advance projects.

You have excellent research and analysis skills and enjoy collecting and synthesizing data.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Business and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Advanced MS Excel skills and superior computer skills with demonstrated advanced level expertise in the Microsoft Office suite of products required;
  • Familiarity with systems such as: PeopleSoft, Student Information Systems (SIS), Millennium and PeopleSoft Financials considered an asset.
