About Our Opportunity

As the Financial Services Officer (FSO), you will be responsible for the collection, compilation, preparation, and analysis of financial reports used in budgeting and business planning processes.

You may also be responsible in supporting the maintenance and forecasting of departmental salaries, analysing financial cost drivers provided by external providers, and reconciling monthly expenditure/revenue and asset/liability accounts.

As the Financial Services Officer you will report to a Financial Services Officer 3 or may report directly/indirectly to the Manager, Financial Advisory Services.

Primary Accountabilities

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supports the financial transaction approval and reconciliation process which includes the development, implementation and ensuring sufficient data, documentation and audit trails exist to support the financial transactions;
  • Provides information and recommendations to financial staff on matters relating to accounting and audit procedures, financial policies, and government financial reporting system (SAP);
  • Assists the Financial Services Team by compiling data for the preparation and distribution of annual budgets; and
  • Analyzes and maintains budget expenditures and revenues, monthly forecasts, annual estimates and makes recommendations based on analysis.

Qualifications And Experience

This may be the right opportunity for you if you have two (2) years of post-secondary professional accounting training along with three (3) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

As the ideal candidate, you have a sound working knowledge of accounting and finance procedures and policies. You have a working knowledge of regulations, policies and generally accepted accounting/auditing principles. The ability to interpret and apply government policies and procedures would be considered an asset.

Proficiency in using computer systems, database systems, internet-based applications, Microsoft suite of services (Excel in particular) is essential. While not required, it is considered an asset if you are proficient with the corporate financial management system (SAP) and Salary Analysis System (SAS). In addition, you can effectively manage multiple projects in a high-volume, team-oriented environment with a client service focus.

You possess exceptional time management and attention to detail skills to provide accurate, consistent and timely financial information. You also have communication (written and verbal) and relationship-building skills to interact and maintain relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. You also can work independently as well as part of the team.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Additional Information

Salary Range: $1,864.28 - $2,189.32 Bi-Weekly
