Your Opportunity

Are you a detail-driven CPA with a passion for financial reporting and technical accounting? Capital Power is looking for a Financial Reporting Specialist to play a pivotal role in shaping the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements.

This is more than just a reporting role, it’s an opportunity to contribute to a company that’s driving the future of sustainable energy.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Preparing and reviewing certain notes to the quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Monitoring IFRS changes including new standards, amendments, and IFRS Interpretation Committee (IFRIC) minutes and preparing a quarterly memo summarizing any changes during the quarter.
  • Preparing technical accounting research and position papers as a result of new transactions or changes to IFRS requirements, and collaborating with other groups across the company, as well as liaising with external and internal audit staff.
  • Performing certain other duties to cover a maternity leave such as preparing quarterly covenant calculations, the quarterly cash flow statement and quarterly Adjusted Funds Flow from Operations (AFFO) metric.
  • Performing various other SOX controls, as required.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Past experience working as part of a Financial Reporting team.
  • Experience working for a publicly listed company is an asset,
  • Experience with IFRS technical research. US GAAP experience is an asset,
  • Experience with Oracle,
  • Proficiency in excel and Microsoft Office Suite,
  • Experience in the power industry is considered an asset.

Education:

  • CPA designation with a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid: work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays.
  • 8 hours per day + reasonable overtime required during quarter ends.
  • Core hours are from 7:30-8:30 through 4:30-5:30.

Additional Details:

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
