We are currently seeking a Financial Planner to join our team.
The Financial Planner is responsible for working with and managing a book of high-value members across multiple branch locations. The role involves offering a full range of investment and financial planning advice, including deposit and lending services. The role focuses on consolidating investment assets through two main groups: 1) existing members to consolidate external assets to First West; 2) referrals from existing members and business development that bring new members with wealth. The Wealth Advisor will meet regularly with assigned members to ensure asset retention and assist with retirement and/or financial plans. Collaboration with retail branch employees and Wealth Planning Specialists is essential to provide members with necessary advice and ongoing service. This position supports the Cherry Lane Branch, as well as the Oliver and Keremeos Branches.

Accountabilities
- Financial Planning and Advice: An expert in the wealth discovery process, this role identifies wealth and financial planning needs, engages with both existing and new members to deepen relationships, and enhances FWs wealth offering across a territory of branches. The WA uses financial planning tools to develop plans and recommendations to meet members' investment and financial goals; meets investment sales targets; analyzes member needs; identifies goals and risk tolerance; develops recommendations; and collaborates with Wealth Planning Specialists for comprehensive financial planning. Processes complex member transactions including MFDA products, retail mortgages, loans, accounts, cards, overdraft protection, and insurance products.
- Portfolio Management: Manages and grows an assigned portfolio of high-value members (generally $250K-$500K in assets). Ensures regular contact, portfolio adjustments based on life stage and risk tolerance, and asset consolidation among members.
- Business Development: Develops and executes an annual plan to secure new member accounts and external wealth business. Builds relationships with branch staff and community networks to identify potential clients and opportunities for retail banking products and services.
- Risk Management: Ensures compliance with all policies and regulations, maintains professional conduct, completes ongoing education, and keeps accurate member records.
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- College, Trade or Tech School Diploma (2 years) required
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Mutual funds license required
- PFP designation required
- CFP designation preferred
- 5 years’ experience in financial planning/investment sales with proven target achievement
- 2 years’ retail lending experience
- Expert knowledge of investment industry, products, and principles of advice/financial planning
- Experience with “Four quadrant” member transactions preferred
- Proven sales success and relationship-building skills
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and planning software like PlanPlus
- Understanding of risk management and adherence to policies
