Job summary

Metrolinx is seeking a Finance Analyst for PRESTO Finance Operations to process daily transactions, monitor settlements, and perform reconciliations for accurate financial reporting. You will prepare journal entries and generate standard reports for management and partners, collaborating with transit providers and internal teams.

The role requires a diploma in finance or accounting, and familiarity with Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio and MS Office; CPA is an asset.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent experience.
• CPA designation or pursuit is an asset.
• Experience with reconciliations and posting GL journals.
• Strong time management and analytical skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with Access, PowerPoint, Visio and other MS Office tools; Dynamics an asset.

Responsibilities

PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets, passes and cash. PRESTO Finance Operations office is seeking an Analyst to perform a variety of tasks and processes including generating settlement funds, calculating settlement fees, and managing various financial accounts.

What will I be doing?

Processing and reviewing daily transactions to ensure they are cleared, aggregated, apportioned, and settled.

Analyzing, investigating, uncovering and resolving process exceptions, out-of-balance situations, and other operational finance incidents, as required.

Daily monitoring of the bank (i.e., EFT processes) to ensure completeness of settlement, and that settlement failures are investigated, captured, and corrected.

Performing daily, weekly and monthly reconciliation and control points, to ensure funds are balanced and creating journal entries for general ledger adjustments, as required.

Compiles daily, weekly and monthly reports (i.e., monthly financial status and performance) for internal management and external business partners.

Analyzes and/or reconciles various internal and external reports to ensure the completeness and integrity of the integrated reports (e.g., data extracts, financial system reports, third party reports).

Collaborating and interacting with internal and/or external business partners and transit service providers, including regular reporting, and responding to inquiries and information requests.

Ensuring financial processes and reconciliations are aligned with established procedures and controls and providing recommendations for improvements.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

Completion of a diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline or any combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.

Designated as or pursuing a designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or related accreditation would be considered an asset.

Demonstrated experience in performing reconciliations, booking journals to the general ledger and month-end within an accounting department.

Strong time management, organizational and analytical skills, and proven organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and take direction from or work with multiple parties in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, with strong working knowledge of MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Visio, and other MS Office software. Experience with MS Dynamics would be an asset.
