Job summary

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
• Experience in real estate, property management, construction, or related industry is an asset.
• Previous experience managing and developing an accounting team.
• Experience working in a multi-company environment.
• Strong financial reporting, budgeting, cash-flow, audit, and internal controls experience.
• Demonstrated success improving accounting processes, systems, and procedures.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with Procore is an asset; MRI/Maestro/Yardi familiarity is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee day-to-day accounting operations across a multi-company environment.
• Review and analyze monthly financial statements, management reports, and financial performance.
• Coordinate year-end audited financial statements and work with external auditors.
• Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts and projections for planning.
• Mentor, develop, and motivate the accounting team and drive continuous improvement.

• Identify financial and operational risks and implement controls and solutions.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Finance to join an established organization in Ottawa’s West End. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the accounting function, strengthening financial processes and controls, and providing meaningful financial insight to support business growth and strategic decision-making.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on, modern accounting leader who brings grit, strong business judgment, excellent communication skills, and a continuous-improvement mindset. You will lead a team of approximately 12, with 2 direct reports, and work closely with the CFO and senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the day-to-day accounting operations across a multi-company environment.
• Review and analyze monthly financial statements, management reports, and financial performance.
• Lead the preparation and coordination of year-end audited financial statements and work closely with external auditors.
• Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts and projections to support financial planning.
• Lead, mentor, develop, and motivate the accounting team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
• Oversee accounts receivable and collections processes.
• Establish, evaluate, and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Identify financial and operational risks and implement appropriate controls and solutions.
• Drive process improvements and introduce modern tools, technology, and efficiencies across the accounting function.
• Support due diligence and the financial integration of acquisitions and new business entities.
• Partner with senior leadership to provide financial analysis, insight, and recommendations that support business objectives.
• Manage special projects and provide ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as required.Act as a trusted financial partner across the organization, communicating complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

• 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
• Experience in real estate, property management, construction, or a related industry is an asset.
