Job description

Our client, a Major Financial Institution is seeking a highly analytical Financial Data Consultant to support a critical initiative to analyze and rationalize the current General Ledger (GL) hierarchy for an initial 6 month contract. The role involves comparing how financial data is currently reported externally under both IFRS and US GAAP with how it's structured within the GL environment. The successful candidate will map and reconcile key differences, with an eye toward long-term change management as the bank prepares to decommission legacy systems and transition fully to the ERP/GL.

The Key Responsibilities include the following;

  • Analyze existing GL hierarchies and understand how entries flow through the system under both IFRS and US GAAP
  • Review and document how financial reporting is currently executed under both standards and map it to the GL structure
  • Identify gaps, discrepancies, and misalignments in the current mapping and propose corrective actions
  • Work closely with finance, external reporting, and technical teams to ensure alignment between data structures and reporting requirements
  • Support potential changes across a large volume of GL accounts (~10,000), considering hierarchy nuances and downstream impacts
  • Contribute to the change management effort associated with restructuring the S4 hierarchy
  • Create detailed mapping documents, change logs, and impact analysis reports
  • Leverage Excel tools (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, etc.) for data analysis and reconciliation
To be considered for this role, our client is looking for someone with the following Skills/Qualifications;
  • Strong experience in data mapping, financial reporting structures, or hierarchy analysis in a banking or large enterprise environment
  • Experience working with IFRS and US GAAP financial reporting frameworks. Knowledge of Accounting
  • Advanced MS Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, etc.) are a must
  • Experience with SAP S4/HANA is a strong asset
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and drawing insights from complex structures
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work cross-functionally in a collaborative environment
The Nice to Have's include the following;
  • Previous experience supporting GL hierarchy redesign or external reporting transformation projects
  • Familiarity with financial reporting systems and tools used in large banks
  • Understanding of change management processes in a financial or regulatory setting
