The Financial Counselor confers with patients and third-party payers to ensure the eligibility and authorization of services. Identifies alternative financial sources for services and facilitates processing of approval. Fields patient account inquiries. Functions as the financial case manager for inpatient assigned patients. Financial counselors provide patients with cost estimates prior to admission and advise them on paying for services. The financial counselor acts as a liaison between the hospital and the patient and collects payments. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Education and Training: High school diploma preferred. Crisis management certification per hospital policy and standards required.
Experience: Three or more years of prior admissions and/or collections experience in a hospital setting required. Psych experience preferred. Experience in billing, accounting or related field.
