Salary : Starting from $90,000 to $110,000 (based on experience)

Location : Guelph, ON

Reports to : CEO

We are seeking a Financial Controller for a diverse group of food-focused businesses spanning Quick-Service Restaurants (QSR), Full-Service Restaurants (FSR), CPG, and food manufacturing for one of our clients. With a commitment to quality, growth, and operational excellence, we are looking for a dedicated professional to join our team and drive our financial integrity and strategic objectives.

Job Summary :

As Financial Controller, you will oversee all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, financial reporting, and cash flow management. You will also develop internal control policies and procedures, manage a team of bookkeepers and junior accountants, and ensure our financial operations align with industry best practices and our strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory and stakeholder requirements.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes across multiple entities.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial data and oversee financial audits as necessary.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting : Support the CEO and CFO in developing and managing annual budgets, financial forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Partner with management to create financial models and reports that support strategic decision-making, especially for CPG and manufacturing cost accounting.
  • Operational Finance & Strategy : Oversee daily accounting operations, including AP/AR and payroll, using Xero, Dext, Plooto, and Cin7.
  • Manage weekly cash flow and provide reports to the executive team.
  • Provide strategic insights on financial performance, identify cost-saving opportunities, and lead margin improvement initiatives.
  • Support expansion planning through financial analysis of new ventures, investments, and acquisitions.
  • Manage and mentor the finance team, ensuring professional growth and adherence to organizational standards.
  • Establish internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard assets and improve financial reporting accuracy.

Growth Potential : This position offers a pathway to becoming the Chief Financial Officer, based on demonstrated leadership and impact.

Qualifications :

  • CPA designation is required; experience in the food industry is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Xero, Dext, Plooto, and Cin7.
  • At least 3 years of financial management experience, ideally in QSR, FSR, CPG, or food manufacturing.
  • Strong expertise in financial accounting, cost accounting, and cash flow management.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards and experience preparing reports for management, boards, banks, and stakeholders is an asset.
  • Analytical skills with a strategic mindset to interpret financial data for decision-making.
  • Attention to detail, organized, and deadline-oriented.
  • Adaptable and flexible, comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment.
