Job summary

The Finance Group is seeking an experienced Controller to provide maternity leave coverage for a growing CPG/Food & Beverage company. This full-time contract role requires taking ownership of day-to-day accounting in a lean environment and partnering with senior leadership.

Responsibilities include month-end close, general ledger, AP/AR oversight, payroll review, and cross-border multi-currency considerations. Experience in NetSuite is strongly preferred.

The Opportunity

The Finance Group is recruiting an experienced Controller to provide maternity leave coverage for a growing organization in the CPG / food & beverage industry.

This is a hands-on, full-time contract opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who can step into a lean finance environment, take ownership of the day-to-day accounting function, and ensure continuity while the incumbent Controller is on leave.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Own and manage the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Manage full-cycle accounting activities including general ledger, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
• Maintain established month-end processes and controls within NetSuite.
• Support the annual financial statement audit, including preparation of schedules and responding to auditor requests.
• Oversee and review Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activities.
• Provide oversight and review of payroll accounting entries.
• Support inventory accounting and reconciliations within a CPG environment.
• Support accounting matters associated with a Canadian parent company and U.S. subsidiary, including cross-border and multi-currency considerations.
• Assist with accounting related to debt, financing arrangements and a more complex capital structure.
• Support lender-related requirements and reporting as needed.
• Maintain appropriate internal controls, accounting policies and audit readiness.
• Respond to ad hoc accounting requests and partner closely with the Head of Finance & Operations.
• Utilize and maintain existing SOPs, close checklists and process documentation to ensure a seamless transition throughout the leave.

What We’re Looking For

• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller or Senior Accounting Manager.
• Strong full-cycle accounting, month-end close and financial reporting experience.
• NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
• Previous CPG, food & beverage, manufacturing or inventory-based business experience is highly desirable.
• Experience with inventory accounting and related reconciliations.
• Experience supporting an annual financial statement audit.
• Exposure to Canadian/U.S. entities, cross-border accounting and multi-currency operations is an asset.
• Experience with debt accounting, financing transactions or complex capital structures is an asset.
• Comfortable working within a small, lean and entrepreneurial organization with limited accounting redundancy.
• Able to work independently, prioritize competing demands and solve problems without significant oversight.
• Detail-oriented, accountable and comfortable moving between transactional accounting and higher-level Controller responsibilities.
