Job summary

Potato Growers of Alberta (PGA) is seeking a Financial Controller to lead its finance function and support governance, reporting to the Executive Director and the Board.

This role oversees accounting, budgeting, payroll, compliance, audit coordination, and financial planning for Alberta's potato industry, while managing a small team, ensuring timely monthly closes, accurate reporting, and adherence to nonprofit standards, enabling senior leadership to make informed strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
• Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and audit coordination.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the organization's day-to-day financial operations.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
• Oversee payroll, statutory remittances, and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate the annual audit with external auditors.
• Monitor accounts receivable and financial performance.
• Develop and maintain strong financial controls and processes.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support organizational decision-making.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Financial Controller is responsible for the overall financial management of the organization.
