As a Controller
Here Is What You Will Be Doing Each Day
- Evaluate the financial impact on business decisions.
- Ensure that all levels of management are promptly notified of any financial deviations from established policies and/or control weaknesses in the hotel.
- Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues, as required to management and ownership. This includes the accurate and timely preparation of cash-flow statements, management of receivables, cash balances, control mechanisms and timely deposits of all funds.

Essential Job Functions
- Interview, hire, train, recommend performance evaluations, resolve problems, provide open communication, and recommend discipline and/or termination when appropriate.
- Monitor and approve all sales, purchases, salaries, and expenses of the hotel.
- Analyze financial data of operations, advise hotel management and assist in maintaining an efficient operation.
- Prepare, review, and present the Monthly Report of Operations.
- Prepare forecasts and budgets as required (Annual, Revised Annual, Monthly, and/or on Crescent/Owner's requests).
- Oversee all contracts and legal agreements, and assist hotel management in maintaining all licenses, permits, insurance and contracts. Monitors labor costs and alerts leadership of overages and deficiencies.
- Establish and audit all internal financial controls, including purchasing, cash handling and disbursements, inventories, hotel equipment, master keys, and associates time records.
- Overseeing completion of payments and controlling expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices.
- Managing Reconciling processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
- Communicate both verbally and in writing to provide clear directions to leadership at the property.
- Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.
- Participate in the Manager-On-Duty (MOD) program for management.
- Ensure compliance with regards to provincial and federal government health and safety requirements. (Permits)
- Attend departmental meetings, executive committee, and operational meetings, to include financial presentations as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a Hands on Hotel Controller.
- Demonstrated knowledge and accuracy in profit and loss (P&L) composition, forecast accuracy, budgeting, cash management, and overall financial management.
- Preferred experience with Marriott systems.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Self-starter with strong communication skills.
- Superior computer and training abilities.
- Understanding of departmental operations.
- Knowledge of business law, federal, state, and local taxes, and Department of Labor regulations.
- Familiarity with insurance, employee benefits, insurance and workers’ compensation claims, and liability.
- Ability to make sound decisions and exercise judgment in evaluating situations.
