President and Operations Manager at Wisk Air Helicopters
Title: Controller
Reports To: General Manager
Summary:
The Controller will be responsible for the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports including monthly bank reconciliations. This position involves supervision over general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls.
Responsibilities:
- Has the responsibility for providing effective financial controls for the organization.
- Oversee the maintenance of books of account (including preparing checks, coding and posting invoices, preparing deposits, journal entries, reconciliations, petty cash).
- Oversee issuing payment of invoices in the form of cheques, EFTs, and wire transfers.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly financial statements for staff and management.
- Liaise with staff and support them in bookkeeping needs related to their program areas.
- Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Complete all payroll functions.
- Prepare tax-related and balance sheet summaries for MNP, in compliance with Federal, Provincial, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes.
- Oversee cash flow requirements, and communications with bankers on investments.
- Manage WSIB and WCB handling for all Provinces of concern.
- Maintain year-end working papers and spreadsheets and assist with preparation for any audits or independent reviews.
- Complete monthly reconciliation for all accounts (bank and other accounts).
- Exert care and control over assets and records and establish procedures for safeguarding, including security and computer backup.
- Assist in maintaining policy and procedure documentation.
- Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and impacts on the organization's books of account CRA, Provincial Tax Laws, Federal Tax Laws, etc.
- Maintain up-to-date, complete and systematic filing system to support bookkeeping and financial records with the existing filing of both paper and digital files.
- Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
- Establish major economic objectives and policies in conjunction with management for the company.
- Prepares reports that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.
- Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions.
- Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
- Oversee and assign duties to an assistant in the data entry position.
Qualifications Sought:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
- 5+ years of experience in financial management.
- Experience in accounting an asset.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Excellent understanding of computerized accounting systems working knowledge of MS Word, QuickBooks, Sage 50, and Excel.
- Accuracy and attention to detail while working under deadlines.
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with key business partners.
- Good organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- AR and AP duties in future may be handed to an assistant, once a suitable assistant is hired.
- The controller will assist with candidate selection for an AP/AR assistant.
Working Conditions:
- On site in main office with some possible travel may be required.
- Attend educational and upgrade skills courses.
- Ability to attend and/or conduct presentations from time to time.
- 40 hrs per week with some overtime as required from time to time.
