Job description

Our client, a dynamic and expanding company with operations in both Canada and the US, is seeking a highly experienced and autonomous Controller to lead its cross-border financial operations. Based in Montreal, this role is ideal for a strategic finance professional ready to own the entire finance function, ensure compliance across jurisdictions, and build a high-performing team to support ongoing growth.

This is a critical leadership position with a direct line to executive management and a strong impact on the company’s future structure.

• Oversee all accounting, tax, and financial reporting activities for Canadian and US entities
• Manage full-cycle accounting operations, intercompany transactions, and transfer pricing
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations, payroll laws, and government reporting standards in both countries
• Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (ASPE and US GAAP)
• Supervise payroll processing, benefits administration, and remittances
• Build, mentor, and lead a growing finance team
• Develop financial policies, controls, and process improvements
• Own budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
• Act as the financial liaison to external auditors, tax consultants, and legal advisors
• Provide strategic insight to the executive team to support business decisions and cross-border expansion
• CPA designation (Canada or equivalent)
• 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with prior experience in a Controller or senior finance leadership role
• Strong knowledge of both Canadian and US tax, payroll, and accounting frameworks
• Experience handling multi-entity, cross-border financial structures
• Demonstrated success in building and managing finance teams
• Autonomous, highly organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
• Bilingual in English and French is a strong asset
