Job summary

Oakbridge Search Partners is seeking a Controller to join our client’s growing private investment firm in Hamilton. The role reports to the CFO and spans corporate, fund and portfolio company finance activities, with broad exposure to budgeting, forecasting, investor reporting and tax compliance.

The successful candidate will be hands-on, entrepreneurial, and capable of driving financial reporting quality as the firm scales.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Experience in private equity, asset management or similar corporate finance setting is a plus.
• CPA designation preferred or progressing toward CPA.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to build financial models.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for senior executives and investors.

Our client, a growing private investment firm, is seeking a Controller to join its team and play a key role across the organization’s corporate, fund and portfolio company finance activities.

Reporting to the CFO and working closely with the senior leadership team, this individual will have broad exposure across corporate finance, fund accounting and reporting, portfolio company oversight, budgeting and forecasting, banking, investor reporting, compliance and transaction support.

This is an opportunity for a hands‑on finance professional who enjoys operating in an entrepreneurial environment and wants exposure beyond a traditional accounting role. As the firm continues to scale its investment platform and portfolio, the scope and strategic responsibility of this position is expected to grow considerably.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Finance & Reporting

• Support the day-to-day finance and accounting activities of the management company and related entities.
• Manage and enhance budgeting, forecasting and management reporting processes.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for senior management.
• Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, variances and areas requiring management attention.
• Work with external accountants and other service providers to support year-end financial reporting, tax filings and related requirements.
• Help develop and maintain appropriate financial controls, reporting processes and internal procedures as the organization continues to grow.
• Provide financial analysis to support strategic initiatives and management decision-making.
• Work closely with external fund administrators and accountants to support the financial reporting requirements of the investment fund.
• Review and spot-check fund accounting, financial statements, reconciliations and supporting schedules prepared by external service providers.
• Support quarterly and annual investor reporting, ensuring information provided to investors is accurate, timely and appropriately presented.
• Assist with capital call calculations, distributions and other fund-related financial activities.
• Support partnership tax filings and other fund-level tax and compliance requirements.
• Act as an internal point of coordination between the firm, fund administrators, external accountants and other professional advisors.
• Support the CFO and senior leadership team in providing financial oversight across the firm’s portfolio companies.
• Review portfolio company financial performance, budgets, forecasts and key operating metrics.
• Partner with portfolio company finance teams and management to improve the quality and consistency of financial reporting.
• Assist in identifying financial trends, risks and opportunities within the portfolio.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and other financial planning initiatives at the portfolio-company level.
• Assist with banking, financing and refinancing activities where required.

M&A & Strategic Initiatives

• Provide financial support on acquisitions, investments and other strategic transactions.
• Assist with financial modelling, transaction analysis and assessment of acquisition opportunities.
• Support financial due diligence and the review of historical and forecast financial information.
• Coordinate with internal team members and external advisors on accounting, tax and transaction-related matters.
• Assist with evaluating transaction structures, financing considerations and tax implications.
• Support post-acquisition financial integration and reporting initiatives as required.

Banking, Treasury & Compliance

• Help oversee banking activities across the management company, investment fund and portfolio companies.
• Coordinate cash movements, banking relationships and other treasury-related activities.
• Support the establishment of new banking services, financing arrangements and accounts as required.
• Manage and coordinate recurring finance-related compliance requirements, including indirect tax filings and other corporate or partnership reporting obligations.
• Work with external tax and accounting advisors to ensure required filings and reporting are completed accurately and on time.

What We’re Looking For

• CPA designation or progression toward a CPA designation preferred.
• Approximately 4–6 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with flexibility depending on the candidate’s background.
• Experience gained within private equity, asset management, investment management, financial services, a portfolio company environment, public accounting or another relevant corporate finance setting would be considered an asset.
• Strong foundation in financial reporting, accounting, budgeting and forecasting.
• Exposure to fund accounting, partnership structures or investment funds is highly valued but not necessarily required.
• Experience reviewing financial statements and working with external accountants, auditors or third-party administrators.
• Strong financial analysis and Excel skills, with the ability to understand and work with financial models.
• Exposure to M&A, transaction advisory, due diligence or acquisition accounting would be an asset.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to move comfortably between detailed accounting work and broader financial analysis.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior executives, investors, portfolio company management teams and external advisors.
• Entrepreneurial and hands‑on mindset with a willingness to take ownership and operate across multiple areas of the business.
