Job description

The Corporate Controller and Financial Analyst will oversee and manage the Family Office’s daily financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all accounting and reporting activities. This hands-on role requires a detail-oriented and proactive professional who can manage financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow, and internal controls while maintaining a strong command of day-to-day accounting processes. The ideal candidate will also provide strategic and analytical support to the CFO and Owner in connection with ongoing and future investment and growth initiatives.

Working closely with the CFO and Owner, the Corporate Controller and Financial Analyst will ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, optimize accounting and reporting processes, and uphold rigorous financial controls. The successful candidate will be comfortable handling both high-level financial oversight and transactional accounting, ensuring adherence to regulatory and tax requirements while supporting the overall financial health and efficiency of the Family Office. In addition, the Corporate Controller and Financial Analyst collaborate with various stakeholders and departments, providing relevant reporting and insights to support informed decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the CFO in preparing financial statements, performance reports, and other documentation for each entity that provides insights into the family’s financial position.
  • Assist in the preparation of all year-end reports, manage the audit process, and oversee the relationship with external auditors.
  • Complete monthly reporting and financial statement analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of yearly budgets and forecasts to ensure discrepancies are identified and investigated monthly.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of cash management/treasury activities, and prepare monthly reports.
  • Prepare individual business sector reports for the divisional presidents of the operating companies; produce roll-ups of financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts, and financial statements.
  • Prepare dashboards and summaries for all entities and create key performance metrics reports and tools specific to monitor KPI’s.
  • Measure business efficiency and analyze operating methods to meet target business results. Work with the team to help improve the efficiency of operating businesses
  • Support to the CFO in the preparation of tax returns for each business.
  • Manage and be responsible for the issuance of invoices, the collection of funds, and payments to third parties on behalf of the founder and Family Office.
  • Interact with third parties such as external accountants, tax advisors, and lawyers to prepare, collect or interpret information on behalf of the Family Office.
  • Be part of a dedicated team devoted to providing key services and helping achieve long-term goals
  • Help guide family members in financial decisions and develop multi-generational financial planning frameworks for family members.
  • Assist the CFO in developing and implementing comprehensive financial strategies that align with the family’s long-term goals.
  • Oversee the family’s investment portfolio. This includes working closely with the Investment Advisor, evaluating investment opportunities, and ensuring that the investment strategy aligns with the family’s risk tolerance and financial objectives.
  • Review contractual terms and conditions for investments and financial transactions.
  • Support the CFO in identifying and assessing financial risks that could impact the family’s wealth, implement robust risk management frameworks, and ensure that appropriate insurance and legal protections are in place.
  • Assist the CFO in optimizing the family’s tax position through strategic tax planning, ensuring compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations, and working with tax advisors to minimize tax liabilities.
  • Review and monitor internal practices and controls to ensure accounting activities comply with legal, regulatory, and corporate policies and best practices.
  • Support the CFO, the Investment Advisor, and the CEO on an as-needed basis for specific projects and assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Over eight (8) years of experience in a senior finance and accounting role.
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant in Canada
  • Additional qualifications such as an MBA in Finance, Chartered Portfolio Manager, or Chartered Financial Analyst designation would be desirable.
  • Good understanding of Canadian corporate and personal tax principles.
  • Experience and knowledge in accounting systems, budgets, forecasts, internal controls, and cash management.
  • Demonstrated interest and understanding of investment strategies and asset management.
  • General knowledge of legal requirements and standards for financial reporting.
  • Handle sensitive financial and personal information with the highest level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • High emotional intelligence and solid professional judgment.
  • Good business acumen and solid analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Autonomy, versatility, and ability to work in a Family Office environment.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills.
