Job summary

Questrade Financial Group of Companies is seeking a Finance Controller to lead the finance function, oversee two direct reports, manage high-volume merchant settlements, and ensure IFRS compliance across international subsidiaries. The role drives treasury, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives within a hybrid work environment.

The successful candidate will have CPA designation, 10+ years of experience, and strong knowledge of IFRS, transfer pricing, internal controls, and Netsuite

We’re looking for our next Finance Controller. Could It Be You?

Reporting to the Managing Director of Risk and Finance, the Finance Controller is a strategic leadership role responsible for steering the finance department and driving major system initiatives. This role oversees two direct reports who manage high-volume merchant settlements, the financial close process, internal and external reporting, audits, and international subsidiary accounting. The successful candidate will act as the primary executive liaison for internal, external, CRA and lender audits, and high-level treasury functions while maintaining a robust internal control environment.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Serving as a strategic advisor to the Managing Director of Risk and Finance and senior executive team, translating complex financial data into actionable business intelligence and long-term strategic plans.

Directing the overarching financial strategy, reviewing profit/cost center analyses and P&L variances to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities.

Retaining ultimate accountability for the accuracy and integrity of financial statements, ensuring strict adherence to IFRS requirements.

Overseeing treasury operations and cash flow and forecast management ensuring optimal working capital.

Partnering with department heads across the organization to align financial goals with operational objectives, driving enterprise-wide financial discipline.

Overseeing the financial health and reporting compliance of an international subsidiary ensuring alignment on corporate transfer pricing, intercompany settlements, and local taxation.

Serving as the final escalation point for complex technical accounting matters; review and approve technical memos and ensure new IFRS standards are smoothly integrated into business operations.

Championing continuous improvement initiatives, sponsoring the implementation of new products and systems to drive automation, efficiency, and scale across the company.

Directing the design and continuous evaluation of internal control frameworks such as ITGC, ELC and ICFR to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risk.

Acting as the senior escalation point for external and internal auditors, ensuring seamless annual audits, and swift resolution of any complex audit findings.

Overseeing corporate tax compliance and strategy by guiding the coordination with the corporate tax department and external tax advisors.

Directing, mentoring, and developing two high-performing finance leaders, empowering them to effectively manage their respective teams and technical domains.

Architecting the structure of the controllership team, ensuring the right allocation of resources to support high-volume transactions, complex reporting, and business growth.

Fostering a collaborative, high-integrity environment that consistently meets critical deadlines, maintains exceptional quality standards, and promotes cross-training and professional development.

Have CPA designation

Have a minimum 10 years’ working experience in an accounting or financial reporting environment..

Have exceptional knowledge of IFRS and technical accounting, including experience with international subsidiaries and Transfer Pricing.

Have experience with internal controls and maintaining an “audit-ready” environment.

Have a minimum 5 years of experience managing direct reports in a complex finance environment.

Have sound judgment, exceptional communication, and the ability to thrive in a high-growth, changing environment.

Have strong project management skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage complex intercompany accounting and settlements.

Are pro-active and have a positive attitude.

Have solid interpersonal and communication skills to articulate quantitative and qualitative results.

Have experience with a Big 4 firm is an asset.

Have experience with financial institutions (banks, credit card issuers, or fintech) is highly preferred, specifically regarding high-volume merchant settlements.

Have experience with Netsuite is an asset.

Compensation Information:

Base salary range: $170,000 - $205,000

  • This is a 12 month contract position - high possibility of going permanent

The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
