Responsibilities

ABOUT THE JOB:

Société Générale’s internal control is based on Permanent control (1st & 2nd Level) and Internal Audit, which are separate and independent but complementary.

The Financial Supervision & Control Team (“CTL”) is part of the Second Level Permanent Control Teams, responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of the accounting and financial control framework. This ensures the quality and accuracy of Société Générale’s (“SG”) financial statement substantiation, regulatory reporting, liquidity, and capital management. It covers Control Testing/Reviews for SG Investment Banking Business Lines linked to SG entities across the Americas. The individual will be part of the CTL Team that designs test plans, collects samples, tests independently, and reports on operational and financial control effectiveness of SG Americas Securities financial and regulatory reporting. The team controls all processes impacting financial and regulatory reporting, from transaction input to reporting, across Front, Middle, and Back office, Risk, and Finance departments. Additionally, the individual will interact with global teams and learn the end-to-end processes of various financial products held by SG’s U.S. and Canada entities, such as corporate loans, letters of credit, securities, repos, derivatives, money market products, broker-dealer operations, and underwriting. The individual may also lead or participate in projects to enhance testing methodologies, digitalization, or data analytics. The CTL Team in the Americas has locations in Canada, U.S., and Brazil, with members from diverse backgrounds to cover a broad spectrum of processes and topics.

What will be your DAY-TO-DAY?

  • Manage the CTL team of Canada, including setting objectives, providing evaluation feedback, coaching, and administrative tasks. Guide and train new or junior staff, assuming a leadership role and contributing to the team’s long-term goals.
  • Perform all aspects of Level 2 control reviews over areas such as repo/reverse repo, stock borrow/lending, fixed income securities, equities, derivatives, margin, loans, letters of credit, and money market products. This includes identifying risk areas, conducting walkthroughs, testing controls, and following up on improvements.
  • Propose enhancements to the operational and financial control framework, especially regarding regulatory reporting processes.
  • Monitor risks, regulatory changes, and projects relevant to the perimeter.
  • Represent the Finance Controls team before Senior Management.
  • Collaborate with first control teams to identify, measure, and report risks.
  • Lead staff in control reviews, setting clear objectives, managing timelines and budgets, and organizing communication and feedback.
  • Stay informed on industry trends affecting SG’s regulatory reporting.
  • Promote technological improvements by automating workflows using BI tools like Alteryx, PowerBI, etc.
  • Assess control frameworks of other SG activities impacting financial reporting as opportunities arise.

Profile required

Skills and Qualifications:

Must Have:

  • Strong audit and accounting skills, with knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP principles.
  • Product knowledge in financial instruments such as repos, securities, derivatives, loans, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Audit, Financial Controllership, or related fields within Banking & Financial Industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline.

Nice to Have:

  • Strong audit skills.
  • Advanced degree is a plus.

Language: Ability to communicate fluently in English, both spoken and written, for collaboration with US colleagues.
