The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Internal and External Reporting, the South Bow Controller team is seeking an experienced Accountant in Calgary to support the company's biggest asset, Keystone pipeline.

The Financial Analyst – Keystone Asset will be a key member of the internal & external reporting team. This is a unique opportunity to join South Bow, which spun off into a public entity in October 2024. This role offers the opportunity to develop an understanding of the midstream industry, contribute to building new processes and perform critical month end close processes in addition to contributing to the analysis of results and regulatory compliance filings relating to the Keystone asset.

What You Will Do

  • Responsible for preparing and reviewing monthly journal entries for revenues, property tax, and power costs.
  • Maintain and update Keystone Canada and US revenue, EBITDA and variable toll models monthly based on volumetrics and accounting data.
  • Work with commercial and internal reporting to ensure accurate reporting and forecasting of results.
  • Perform variance analysis on the assets results and communicate results to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with asset management and rates teams to ensure accuracy of results reporting and variable toll calculations.
  • Prepare regulatory filings related to pipeline assets including CER and FERC Form 6 and 6-Q filings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with various business units and stakeholders to ensure efficiency and accurate gathering of information.
  • Support South Bow’s financial reporting processes by assisting with preparation of financial statement note schedules relating to the Keystone assets.
  • Communicate with various business units including volumetrics, rates and commercial teams.
  • Utilize the new ERP system to book entries, create and document processes, and generate reports for month-end close and reporting activities.
  • Perform other ad-hoc journal entries and results analysis for the Company’s operations as required.
  • Support ad-hoc reporting processes including legal entity statements and statutory audits.

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in Business, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, auditing, or a related role, preferably in the midstream / energy industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and OneStream.
  • Understanding of the CER and FERC regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Self-motivated with a strong analytical skill set and desire to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Growth mindset and interest in contributing to the building and improvement of processes.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines with multiple priorities.
