Job summary

A leading company in Edmonton is seeking a qualified Financial Analyst for a 6-month contract with the possibility of extension. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, budget management, and financial analysis, emphasizing collaboration with both technical and non-technical teams. Applicants must hold a relevant Bachelor's degree and possess at least 3-5 years of experience in finance, making contributions to budget forecasting and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in contract cost analysis and cost allocation methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for budget analysis findings.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex contractual terms and provide recommendations for cost optimization.
  • Support the development of budgeting and forecasting models.
  • Document processes and support audit/traceability requirements.

Skills

Contract Duration: 6 months (possibility of extension)

Mandatory:

Bachelor's degree in a related field; professional designations (e.g., CPA, CFA) are an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and Canadian public sector accounting standards
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite tools
  • Experience with data governance, data privacy, and compliance regulations
  • Experience working in accounting systems creating processes, managing budgets, and internal controls

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in managing project/program financials such as budgeting and forecasts
  • Experience with process improvement, documentation, and requirement gathering
  • Experience working with Information Technology accounting and processes
  • Relevant experience in a role similar to this. Experience must be applicable to this role.

Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; professional designations (e.g., CPA, CFA) are an asset.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, especially in zero-based or performance-based budgeting environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in contract cost analysis, spend analysis, and cost allocation methodologies.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel and financial/budgeting software (experience with ERP systems preferred).
  • Ability to analyze complex contractual terms and provide recommendations for cost optimization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and presenting budget analysis findings to technical/non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in process documentation and supporting audit/traceability requirements.
  • Other duties as required.

Interviews are estimated to be held June 11-18th. This is an estimate only.
