Financial Analyst Consultant – Operational Reporting

Our Calgary-based client is seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to join their team. This key role will be responsible for conducting financial analysis to support operational functions, as well as managing month-end close activities. The successful candidate will also lead forecasting efforts and support the development of the annual budget and five-year plan for the designated site departments. Reporting directly to the Manager of Operational Reporting, this position offers a hybrid work model. Occasional travel to the mine site may be required. This is a 6-month contract role, with potential for extension.

Your Success Will Be Defined By Your Ability To

  1. Prepare for monthly departmental cost review meetings, including detailed cost variance analysis.
  2. Maintain costing in SAP for the month end close, including preparing journal entries for cost allocations, accruals, prepaid entries, down payments, etc.
  3. Maintain fixed asset register in SAP and manage accounting and analysis for capital projects.
  4. Prepare continuities and support schedules for financial reporting.
  5. Prepare accounting entries or memos for complex accounting issues if required.
  6. Support departments in preparing budgets and forecasts, including presentations and training on financial topics.
  7. Work with assigned area managers to record and monitor costs and spending.
  8. Prepare period-end internal controls and reconciliations.
  9. Support ad hoc projects as required.

Your strengths include:

  1. Bachelor’s degree with focus on accounting, business, or finance.
  2. Professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).
  3. 3+ years of relevant experience.
  4. Experience in preparing budgets, forecasts, and analyses.
  5. Experience with SAP and fixed assets.
  6. Ability to handle multiple deadlines and work in a high-pressure environment.
  7. Experience working in the mining industry, northern Canada, and an understanding of the northern regulatory environment is preferred.
