The Accounting Services Division of the City of Toronto is responsible for preparing the City’s annual consolidated financial statements, developing and maintaining the City\'s accounting policies, interpreting and visualizing complex financial data, and ensuring that all transactions are accounted for in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS). Recognized for your ability to thrive in a service-oriented, politically sensitive environment where you will advise Divisional staff regarding proper accounting requirements, you’re fully prepared to take on this key mandate and make your mark on the City’s complex financial reporting activities and processes.
As theFinancial Analyst, Corporate Financial Reporting, you’ll perform analysis of accounts in the City’s general ledger, prepare management reports, implement new requirements under PSAS, and assist in the preparation of the City\'s annual financial statements, which includes a consolidation of controlled entities.
Reporting to the leadership team of Accounting Services, you’ll leverage your background in generally accepted accounting principles and accounting/financial analysis and reporting to prepare financial statements, provide accounting advice to stakeholders on complex transactions, create financial models and data visualization tools, develop training modules to enhance City-wide understanding of PSAS requirements, and develop monthly, quarterly and annual management reports, including quarterly reports for Statistics Canada. You’ll also keep abreast of relevant provincial statutes and regulations, by-laws and Council directions, and ensure controls are designed and maintained in accordance with City by-laws and policies.
This position will call upon you to investigate issues raised by internal and external auditors and to lead special projects and assignments. You’ll take advantage of your experience in overseeing a team to supervise support staff, including scheduling, staff training and performance development.
