Job description

Position: Financial Analyst (1-Year Contract with Possibility of Full-time)
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Department: Finance and Accounting
Reports To: Manager, Financial Reporting & Accounting

Position Summary
We are searching for a candidate with experience in external reporting, internal management reporting and the quarterly financial close process. Primary responsibilities include preparing financial reports and schedules for joint ventures on a quarterly basis, analyzing financial information provided by joint venture partners ensuring consistent application of Seapeak’s accounting policies, and assisting with ad hoc finance and accounting projects.


This is a one-year contract role with the possibility of becoming a permanent full-time position upon completion of the contract.

Major Responsibilities
External Reporting
  • Complete various quarter-end duties and working papers to ensure an accurate and timely financial close.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS for select joint ventures and subsidiaries of Seapeak LLC.
  • Prepare audit documentation and address audit inquiries to facilitate the timely completion of audited financial statements.
  • Assist in the implementation of US GAAP and SEC regulation changes.
Internal Reporting
  • Prepare quarterly variance analysis and various account reconciliations for select joint ventures.
  • Liaise and manage relationships with our global joint venture partners and critically review and analyse financial reports provided for and by these partners.
  • Assist in the development of financial forecasts and budgets for joint ventures and preparation of reports for management, the board of directors and the audit committee.
  • Oversee aspects of operational accounting, which includes liaising and collaborating with international offices and departments.
  • Participate in projects as required by management, including business and asset acquisitions, IT system implementations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the global Finance and Accounting team.
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
  • University Business Degree including a professional accounting designation.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the accounting field.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and previous experience researching and applying standards.
  • Experience compiling financial statements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong computer software skills (MS Excel and MS Word).
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with others, with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment.
Preferred
  • Exposure to Oracle ERP Cloud, SAP BPC or WDesk.
  • Shipping industry experience.
