Position Overview

The First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB) is a national First Nation institution created by the FMA. The FMB supports First Nations in their social and economic well-being through the development of strong governance and financial management systems.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Standards and Certification (SAC), the Financial Analyst performs high-quality analysis of financial statements in accordance with approved procedures, standards, and guidelines. The Financial Analyst manages service delivery throughout all phases of the certification process.

Responsibilities

  1. Establish proactive, positive, and constructive relationships with First Nation clients;
  2. Maintain current records of each client's certification progress using the FMB's client relationship management system;
  3. Catalogue client documents using the FMB's records management software;
  4. Respond to client inquiries related to Standards and Certification;
  5. Assist the Senior Manager in preparing materials for SAC Committee and Board meetings;
  6. Collect data and prepare regular reports on certification status using the client relationship management system;
  7. Contribute to strategic planning and ongoing improvement of policies, procedures, and operations;
  8. Organize and retain engagement file documentation according to policies;
  9. Collaborate with other service lines to support organizational initiatives;
  10. Perform additional duties such as financial policy analysis, technical research, and project contributions as needed.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education with a CAFM designation or ACAF certificate;
  • 1-2 years of experience in finance or accounting, preferably in the public or non-profit sector;
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles;
  • Knowledge of Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards is an asset;
  • Experience with financial analysis and reporting;
  • Advanced Excel skills;
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills; experience with document management systems is an asset;
  • Proven teamwork success;
  • Experience working with First Nations in a financial or advisory capacity;
  • Outgoing, energetic, and committed to client success;
  • Fluency in French or an Indigenous language is an asset;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively, set goals, and organize tasks efficiently.

Equivalent or relevant education and experience may be considered.

Working Conditions

  • This position can be based in West Vancouver, BC, or remotely within British Columbia;
  • Occasional national travel may be required.
