Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis, the Financial Analyst will provide accurate and data-based information on the organization’s ongoing ability to recover costs. Investigate and analyze financial information and recommend actions to help the organization make well-informed decisions. This will include monitoring financial performance, identifying the organization's financial risk / opportunities and supporting the preparation of financial forecasts / budgets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assemble and summarize data to structure sophisticated reports on financial status and risks
  • Identify financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with budget, forecast and prior year results
  • Improve financial status by monitoring and reporting on variances, identifying trends and providing variance explanations with recommendations to management.
  • Produce monthly reports to display key aspects of the analysis for inclusion (i.e. trends and key performance indicators)
  • Determine cost of operations by collecting operational data and identifying direct and indirect costs attributable to services delivered
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance staff and Senior Management Team to support the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
  • Maintain a financial analysis database (Microsoft Access) by entering, verifying, and backing up data
  • Increase productivity by developing automated accounting processes and reports and coordinating information requirements
  • Develop financial models, conduct benchmarking and process analysis as required
  • Drive process improvement and policy development initiatives that impact the function
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Respond to requests for more details from internal customers

Job Qualifications

  • Financial designation/accreditation (e.g. CPA, CA, CMA or CGA) (finalized or working towards)
  • University degree (or equivalent) in business, finance, or accounting
  • 3 years of progressive experience in the financial/accounting arena
  • Strong operational financial understanding with solid knowledge of accounting regulations
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating and working with stakeholders and team members to provide sound business solutions while also safeguarding confidential financial information
  • Strong attention to detail, and excellent communication skills with ability to explain and present complex financial information to financial and non-financial audiences
  • Strong technical and quantitative ability: Competent using Microsoft Excel and Access to build budgeting and financial reporting models and related analytics
  • Well-developed skills in data mining and data analysis; able to gather, analyze and evaluate data and deliver professional reports and presentations
  • Well-developed planning, problem-solving, and organizing skills to manage multiple competing priorities in a multi-faceted, complex environment, meet deadlines and respond to changing priorities
  • Strong practical financial knowledge in the preparation of financial reporting and related analytics, including proven knowledge of financial forecasting and diagnosis, and information analysis
