POSITION TITLE: Financial Analyst

DEPARTMENT: Finance

STATUS: Regular Full-Time, Non-Bargaining Unit

REPORT TO: Senior Manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting

SALARY RANGE: $67,520 - $75,960

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Financial Analyst reports directly to the Senior Manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting at the Neighbourhood Group Community Services (TNGCS) and is responsible for recording journal entries, maintaining financial records/general ledger, performing financial analysis, bank reconciliations, assisting with problem-solving, supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings, financial reporting, assisting audit functions, and other routine accounting functions. The Neighbourhood Group manages over 50 programs across 32 locations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), funded by local, provincial, federal sources, as well as corporate, United Way, and individual donors.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  1. Maintain accurate records and analysis for revenue and expense streams, general ledger records, and assist in preparing timely and accurate financial statements monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  2. Reconcile multiple bank accounts, credit card statements, and other accounts as needed.
  3. Maintain and reconcile accounts receivable/payable sub-ledgers to the general ledger, and ensure journal entries can be posted to control accounts.
  4. Assist Senior Finance Manager with payroll reconciliation and journal entries bi-weekly.
  5. Perform reconciliations for income statements and balance sheet items such as investments, petty cash, accounts receivable, deferred revenue, accrued liabilities, payroll clearing, prepaid assets, and depreciation on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  6. Complete required reconciliations for WSIB, EHT, HST, union dues, etc., as applicable, on a regular basis.
  7. Prepare lead sheets, schedules, and documentation to assist during the annual audit.
  8. Maintain confidentiality and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  9. Apply consistent accounting policies and procedures organization-wide.
  10. Meet all financial reporting and reconciliation deadlines.
  11. Collaborate with colleagues across departments as needed.
  12. Perform other tasks and projects as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Diploma or bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  2. At least 2 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, or financial analysis.
  3. Knowledge of accounting principles; experience in not-for-profit accounting is an asset.
  4. Experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central or similar accounting software is an asset.
  5. Flexibility to adjust work schedules and duties as needed.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel (including VLOOKUP, PivotTables, formulas, financial modeling) and Outlook.
  7. Client/customer-focused approach and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
