JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Financial Analyst.

Reporting to the Finance Controller, this position is responsible for providing expertise as a professional finance analyst with in-depth knowledge of financial management systems, programs and practices: Develops, recommends and monitors adherence to financial strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines. Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of financial systems and procedures. Provides leadership to management in the specialized area of financial management and resolves implementation and technical issues independently. Provides support to the manager in the discharging of due diligence through a professional challenge role within the business. Provides advice and guidance to line management through exercising professional and independent financial judgment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Analyzes system operating and maintenance costs and recommends changes to improve efficiency.
  • Ensures the integrity of the decision support process through support for the preparation and review of business case summaries.
  • Gives advice, guidance and assistance to systems users on issues related to management system development, operation, and maintenance.
  • Maintains professional awareness of current accounting practices, GAAP and the general business environment, the utility industry and communicates impacts and implications throughout the business.
  • Maintains and supports financial systems within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of financial information systems and procedures.
  • Provides management reports utilizing financial systems and other inputs and assists clients in interpretation of financial and operational results.
  • Reviews accounting practices and provides a due diligence assessment as to the accuracy, consistency and appropriateness of analysis and conclusions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-year University Degree in Business, Finance, or Engineering.
  • Progression towards the achievement of a professional accounting designation (i.e., CA, CGA, CMA).
  • A minimum of 4 years or up to 6 years of experience working in a financial or accounting environment in a comparable organization to become familiar with financial analysis, controllership and financial systems.
  • Business experience with OPG's accounting policies, procedures, strategies, guidelines, decision making process and structures to understand business unit plans to assist in the development of financial strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Experience with financial management systems to gain an in-depth and wide-ranging knowledge to participate in the development and implementation of financial information systems.
  • Knowledge of business related disciplines such as finance, business administration, computer science or accounting to research, analyze and provide input from stakeholders in the area of general accounting practices to assist in the development of strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of financial management systems to participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of financial systems.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to prepare effective documentation for financial procedures.
