The Opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator of Financial Planning and Analysis and working within a team of Financial Analysts, the Financial Analyst provides budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis for a portfolio of Schools and Departments within SAIT.

Within the portfolio, Financial Analysts develop expertise in specific areas to identify potential financial risks, support decision-making with analysis, and adhere to SAIT's financial policies and processes.

A key responsibility is to collaborate effectively with the Finance Business Partner and other Financial Analysts to achieve consistent and integrated results. The role involves building relationships with operational personnel to understand the business and provide analytics and reporting for financial and operational management. Foundational knowledge of Finance projects, processes, and strategic direction is essential.

The position requires a collaborative, customer-focused approach, sound judgment, and decision-making skills. It involves managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment, working well under pressure, and effective communication.

Key Responsibilities/Major Duties

  1. Portfolio Responsibilities:
  2. Collaborate with stakeholders to prepare annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, monthly reports, and variance analyses in line with SAIT's strategies and policies.
  3. Develop expertise in core financial and operational components related to budgets and forecasts.
  4. Gain a comprehensive understanding of operations within the portfolio, including pressures, risks, and initiatives, and their financial implications.
  5. Assist in developing tactical plans, including training, to ensure consistent deliverables and deadlines.
  6. Identify emerging risks or issues through analysis and stakeholder interaction, and recommend corrective actions.
  7. Support ad hoc reporting and analysis needs for timely decision-making.
  8. Identify training needs for stakeholders on financial policies and reporting.
  9. Ensure coverage during absences to maintain service levels.

  2. Develop and implement service level standards for Financial Analysts.
  3. Maintain high standards of customer service and confidentiality in interactions with stakeholders.
  4. Build and foster relationships within the FP&A team and with external stakeholders.
  5. Proactively communicate with Finance Business Partners to build trust and transparency.
  1. Automation, Innovation & Transformation
  2. Champion change initiatives, evaluate processes for efficiency, and implement automation opportunities.
  3. Stay informed on evolving financial processes, tools, and requirements, and communicate these to stakeholders.
  4. Identify and recommend process improvements within the portfolio.
  1. Consolidated Responsibilities
  2. Assist in preparing consolidated reports and analyses.
  3. Identify opportunities and risks for planning budgets and forecasts.
  4. Review processes for consistency and recommend improvements.

Qualifications, Certifications or Designations

  • Business/Accounting Diploma or Degree.
  • Working towards or attained Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in accounting functions, including budgeting and financial analysis.
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
