The Financial Aid Advisor supports students from the time they are admitted into an academic program through graduation and beyond. Specific areas of financial aid advising include offering student advices about financial matters, and loan and scholarships options in accordance with provincial, federal, and university protocols, policies, and operating procedures. The Advisor plays a vital role in students’ academic perseverance by providing excellent customer service and enhancing students’ overall experience at CityU in Canada. The Financial Aid Advisor participates in the improvement of communication and the streamlining of financial aid processes to help students make better-informed decisions. The Advisor works closely with the Enrolment and Academic Advisors on the advancement, administration, delivery, maintenance, and benchmarking of service areas, systems and related departmental policies. The position reports to the Senior Director of Enrollment and Student Success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Counsel incoming and current students on Canadian loan applications opportunities, available through provincial/federal programs, private lending options, external scholarships and CityU resources.
Provide information, in person, on the telephone or electronically to prospective and current students, regarding admissions and registration status on financial aid.
Serve as liaison with provincial, federal, and other agencies, and keep abreast of student assistance prospects and related program protocols. Maintain knowledge of current Provincial and Federal student financial aid regulations, rules, and policies.
Assess eligibility of financial aid applications and make required adjustments.
Track and monitor all student loan applications and records in accordance with provincial and federal guidelines and collaborate with Academic Advisors and the Registrar’s Office on add/drop processing to ensure accurate reporting.
Prepare annual institutional submission, including designation agreements, and program eligibility declarations.
Supervise the collection, administration, and reporting of data as appropriate.
Participate in the CityU Scholarship Committee.
Conduct workshops and presentations on financial aid policy and procedural issues for students and other interested parties.
Act as a liaison for students to other University departments to resolve relevant issues. Effectively address student concerns to ensure that all students are aware of their options and financial/academic obligations to their program of choice.
Maintain up-to-date record keeping for all assigned students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experiences.
Minimum of 2 years of financial aid/student services, or counseling experience, preferably in a college or university setting.
Must demonstrate a high level of customer service; attention to detail; and organizational, problem-solving, and follow-through ability.
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
Ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision, effectively prioritize work, multi-task and adjust to changing workloads and deadlines.
Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse populations.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to present information effectively to small and large groups and respond to questions from diverse groups of students, staff, faculty, community organizations, and the general public.
Proficient with basic MS Office tools.
Experience working in a PeopleSoft environment preferred. Working knowledge of databases to enter, track and maintain student information.

Salary information:
CAD $49,000 — $59,000/year DOE
