Position Overview

Working as assigned with a customer-centric mindset, each position will be assigned to support various work areas, specialties, business units, services, projects and improvement initiatives. Independently or as part of a team, financial accountants support the assigned site/service areas to identify, design and suggest improvements which produce efficiency of the health services.

  • Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of monthly journal entries.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of financial and statistical reports for internal and external users.
  • Reconciles and analyzes general ledger financial and statistical accounts.
  • Assist in creation and maintenance of year-end audit files.
  • Maintains and monitors capital asset records.
  • Responsible for the review of accounts receivable aging and trial balance on a monthly basis.
  • Create financial reports and financial models to support decision-making.
  • Preparation of monthly statistical reports.
  • Identify, design and deliver recommendations for improvements to enhance efficiency of various financial services, systems, processes and procedures.
  • Provide insight into problem identification, data interpretation, and the identification, investigation, testing and refinement of potential solutions to address systemic barriers to efficiency and quality care.
Experience
  • 3 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance.
  • 2 years’ experience of financial reporting and operational metrics tracking.
  • Experience using the finance and accounting modules of a comprehensive ERP system (e.g., SAP and/or Great Plains) is considered an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Presently enrolled into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP of the CPA designation); an equivalentcombination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Additional formal education in diverse and innovative financial business data modeling, funding and commissioning models in the public sector, and systematic process improvement methodologies (such as the lean transformation framework) are assets.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrated comprehensive mid-level leadership capabilities.
  • Knowledge of business accounting practices and Public Sector Accounting standards is an asset.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings at multiple sites throughout the organization, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 25 pounds.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
