Reporting to the VP Finance, the Financial Accountant will be responsible for various accounting duties, ensuring all finance-related tasks are performed on time and deadlines are met.

Main responsibilities

Finance and Accounting

  • Full cycle accounting duties, ensuring all deadlines are met for all entities.
  • Management, administration, and maintenance of banking and payments.
  • Assist VP Finance and CFO in establishing a fully operational Treasury function.
  • Perform monthly closing activities for all legal entities, including fixed assets, leases, depreciation, prepaids, and foreign currency revaluation.
  • Inter-company entries, account reconciliation, and maintenance.
  • Statutory filings, tax returns, and reports in all jurisdictions, including Canada and Greenland.
  • Manage group travel and credit card reconciliations.
  • Manage and administer group health benefits and corporate payroll in Canada, Iceland, and the UK.
  • Ownership of banking and AP master data management in the ERP system.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Develop a three-month cash flow forecast.

Qualifications

Education & Training

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of related accounting experience in a medium-sized public or private company, preferably in mining, utilities, transportation, logistics, or construction industries.
  • Full cycle accounting experience is required.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, accounting memos, and position papers.
  • Business analytics and performance analysis skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities calmly.
  • Strong work ethic, team player, and analytical thinker.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate across departments.
  • Understanding of linking transactions to business goals.
  • Willing to work extended hours during financial closing periods.
