POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Financial Accountant will provide support for day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting. The successful candidate will have demonstrated effective collaboration and people management skills, excellent communication skills and be a self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. This position is ideal for someone with solid foundational experience in general ledger accounting and financial reporting, looking to work in a small agile organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage day-to-day banking activities, including cash disbursements, deposits, and account reconciliations
  • Oversee internal vendor management processes including onboarding new vendors, updating existing vendor profiles, ensure document compliance and address questions related to payments
  • Manage the full accounts receivable cycle, including customer account maintenance, processing incoming payments, assisting in the annual renewal process and responding to customer inquiries or disputes in a timely manner
  • Prepare and post recurring and adjusting journal entries for month-end and year-end close processes
  • Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Prepare and submit tax installments and file premium and sales tax returns
  • Support the preparation of regulatory filings and help compile data for actuaries
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS 17 and internal financial policies and procedures
  • Collaborate and support external audit process
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance accounting workflows including strategic operating initiatives
  • Provide support to Assistant Controller with other tasks as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2-4 years experience in financial reporting
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, specifically IFRS
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with SAGE 300 is an asset
  • CPA or working toward CPA designation
  • Experience in insurance industry preferred
