Position Summary
The Payroll Support position will process payroll and maintain the employee database regarding salary and pay, along with the payroll department's responsibility for benefits administration and other administrative tasks. The position reports directly to the Manager of Payroll and Benefits.

Department: Finance – Payroll and Benefits

Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time, 1.0 FTE Hours: 80 hours bi-weekly Hourly Range: $65,977.60 – $68,640.00 annually Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm. A combination of work from home and in-office with flexible working arrangements.

Start Date: January 20, 2025, or as soon as possible.

A clear British Columbia Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable adults and/or children is a condition of employment with RainCity Housing. Applicants must be willing and able to receive a clearance under the Criminal Record Review Act.

Qualifications

Many forms of education and experience are valued, including volunteering, and lived experience of mental health/substance use/homelessness. Minimum education and experience include:

  • Two (2) years of post-secondary training in a relevant field
  • Completion of CPA Payroll Fundamentals 1
  • Recent, related experience of four years - minimum two (2) years of payroll experience in a unionized environment
  • Proficiency with Ceridian (Dayforce)
  • Experience in benefit administration
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office and its suite of products
  • Non-profit accounting experience, an asset, or other experience in a non-profit organization (in any capacity, as a volunteer or staff).
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Skills to contribute to safety in the workplace, including:
  • Demonstrated anti-racism knowledge and skills to support racialized communities, including knowledge of Canada’s historical and ongoing colonialism and its impact on Indigenous peoples.
  • Demonstrated anti-discrimination knowledge and skills to support equity-seeking groups, including the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, people who use drugs and alcohol, people living with mental health conditions, and sex workers.
  • Possesses working knowledge and understanding of the legislation, practices and procedures of payroll and benefits administration
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Accuracy with mathematical and financial calculations

  • Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze, draw conclusions and take action as required

List of duties

  • Assists with confidential, timely and accurate processing of payroll for all hourly and salaried employees
  • Maintains employee information, scheduling and payroll system
  • Responsible for excluded staff scheduling and assists managers in union staff scheduling
  • Responds to employee payroll support tickets providing information and resolving discrepancies, and escalates more complex tickets to Payroll & Benefits Manager
  • Preparation of records of employment and assists with the provision of other payroll and benefits reports
  • Responsible for providing wage information for any type of claim process (including WorkSafeBC, ICBC, HBT/LTD)
  • Responsible for administering the union and excluded employee benefits programs
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders, resolves problems, and responds to requested information
  • Performs related projects or duties as assigned
  • Filing for payroll and benefits document
