Schlegel Urban Developments Corp. is a mid-sized Kitchener-based real estate development and management company. The company is recognized for its master-planned residential subdivision projects and unique commercial developments, including the mixed-use Williamsburg Town Centre, Wallaceton Marketplace, Bauer Marketplace in Waterloo, and the St. Jacobs Market District, home to Canada’s largest year-round indoor/outdoor farmers’ market and the new Stockyards brewery and restaurant.

A family-owned business, Schlegel Urban Developments is a hands-on organization with a committed and talented team. We are seeking a motivated individual who is passionate about accounting and interested in real estate, development, and property management to join our growing and effective accounting team.

Finance Manager

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Finance Manager will be responsible for:

  • Developing, reviewing, and updating policies and procedures for the accounting cycle
  • Managing tenant files and ensuring lease details are accurately accounted for in accordance with accounting standards
  • Managing the annual operating cost reconciliation process with tenants
  • Reviewing tenant ledgers to ensure charges, recoveries, and deposits are accurately posted
  • Recording routine transactions such as mortgage payments, recurring journal entries, and amortization
  • Supporting the Controller with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assisting with construction financing draws for future projects
  • Supporting monthly filings and payments for EHT, HST, WSIB, and corporate tax installments
  • Reviewing the general ledger monthly for accuracy and investigating variances
  • Supporting the annual budgeting process
  • Preparing various accounting reports and analyses as required
  • Collaborating with the VP Leasing & Commercial Real Estate and property management staff on financial accounting matters
  • Reporting to external parties such as banks, MPAC, and CRA
  • Providing guidance and leadership to accounts receivable and payable staff

Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in an accounting management role
  • CPA designation is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Yardi products is an asset; on-site training will be provided
  • Property management experience is an asset
  • Independent, self-starter with a hands-on approach in a small team environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, demonstrating tact, diplomacy, and judgment

Schedule

  • Minimum 4 days in-office

Salary

  • $70,000 - $75,000, based on experience
