Job description

Metlen Energy & Metals is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. Reporting to the Regional Finance Manager, this exciting opportunity will play a key role in the growth of our company, and will be responsible for monitoring the country's financial performance, supporting and controlling all financial operations regarding project execution. Please note, this is a fixed‑term contract.

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Responsibilities
  • Monitoring financial performance of projects (P&L, cash flow, actual vs budget, etc.) and ensuring accuracy and control.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts, cash‑flows, forecasts and other relevant reports.
  • Participating in project budgeting preparation in cooperation with the Project Director.
  • Participating in contract negotiations (Clients – Sub‑Contractors) with regard to financial issues.
  • Recording financial results accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with local and IFRS standards.
  • Ensuring timely closure of finance audit recommendations and participating in the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of corrective action plans.
  • Ensuring smooth compliance with local tax authorities.
  • Managing dealings with the company’s banks regarding payments, receipts and foreign currency transactions.
  • Coordinating all financial and administrative matters with local authorities in collaboration with the Project Director.
  • Coordinating labor and legal matters in cooperation with HQ’s HR and Legal Department.
  • Reporting locally to the Regional Managing Director – North America and supporting him as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Must hold a CPA.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience (preferably in the construction industry – EPC).
  • Proven experience with managing tax compliance, preparing budgets and forecasts with cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Financial reporting experience under IFRS and familiarity with key accounting judgments for engineering services businesses and long‑term projects.
  • Excellent command of the English language (both oral and written).
  • Experience in international working environments.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting, general chart of accounts, and tax matters.
  • Strong communication skills and teamwork mentality.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Knowledge of Xero and cloud applications is considered an asset.
