This position reports to the Vice President, Finance and will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting activities and participating in monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the month, quarter, and year-end close processes, including preparing and posting journal entries and reviewing reconciliations.
- Supervise and manage the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Senior Financial Analyst, and Junior Financial Analyst teams.
- Ensure accurate and timely general ledger activities, including journal entries, sales tax, reconciliations, and accruals.
- Assist in providing information for financial reports, variance analysis, and reports for the Board and SLT.
- Support the Vice President of Finance during quarterly reviews and year-end audits with external auditors.
- Prepare compliance documentation and filings with regulatory agencies such as CRTC, revenue agencies, and Stats Can.
- Maintain debt covenants and other compliance obligations.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets.
- Review and approve monthly commission and bonus calculations.
- Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of accounting systems and information management.
- Perform ad hoc projects, analytics, and reconciliations as required.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong analytical skills with high accuracy in handling numbers.
- Process-oriented with experience in improving accounting operations and procedures.
- Experience with monthly closes, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and Power Pivots.
- Knowledge of IT and accounting systems, especially Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision).
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally, resolve issues, and communicate solutions effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible, adaptable, with a positive attitude towards changing deadlines and needs.
- Strong organizational skills and results-driven mindset.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience at the Assistant Manager level or higher, or as a senior associate from public accounting, with a strong understanding of IFRS standards and reporting, including implementing standard changes.
