Finance Generalist

FINANCE VISIONARY WANTED! Are you a finance professional with at least five years of law firm experience, a strong financial acumen, and a passion for leadership? Our Client, a leading law firm, is seeking a Finance Generalist who is ready to oversee financial operations while mentoring and training the next wave of talent. Key Responsibilities

  1. Produce/organize month-end financial reports; review for accuracy and cross reference with previous month, note and investigate any discrepancies.
  2. Prepare financial reports for firm and management company by analyzing, collecting, and condensing account trends and information.
  3. Use a system to account for the financial transactions made by firm/management company to establish appropriate chart of accounts.
  4. Enter financial transactions such as cheques, transfers and cash receipts for Trust and General account, client bills and write-offs, e-billings.
  5. Reconcile all applicable accounts including trust, general, Oncorp, Teranet, MTO.
  6. Work with management team on any potential leasing arrangements.
  7. Ensure all financial actions comply with local, legal and LSO requirements.
  8. Year-end preparations for annual review.
  9. Obtain investment instructions from lawyers and submit to bank based on current legal requirements.
  10. Liaise with management and bank account manager; track and manage financial data.
  11. Assist Chief Operating Officer with daily firm administration including but not limited to setting up new employees on accounting system, create new GL accounts etc.
  12. Train new employees in accounting procedures; conduct periodic training sessions for firm members.
  13. Participate in special projects and/or event planning as they arise.
  14. Any other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  1. 5+ years relevant accounting experience; law firm experience is a must.
  2. Familiarity with general principles of accounting; strong understanding of math and numbers.
  3. Acumin Legal Accounting experience is preferred.
  4. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and clearly with other firm members.
  5. Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines without supervision.
  6. A team player who can also work independently.
  7. The ability to work on multiple projects while adhering to tight deadlines and use various financial transactions such as accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  8. Good data entry skills.
