Job summary

A growing key player in hydropower is seeking a Controller to join their team. Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller will oversee financial systems, manage banking relations, and ensure compliance with IFRS. The ideal candidate will have a CPA designation, extensive accounting experience, and be bilingual in French and English. This role offers a hybrid work model and requires occasional travel within Quebec.

  • IFRS knowledge; Construction or Hydro sector experience is a plus.

Job description

Our client is a growing key player in hydropower. Strong relationships with industry partners and passionate collaboration are central to their success.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Controller is a strategic partner and management committee member. Key duties include :

  • Oversee and update financial systems
  • Manage banking, investment, and insurance relations
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks

Responsibilities

Financial Systems & Analysis – 60%

  • Oversee consolidated financial data and reporting
  • Coordinate audits and ensure IFRS compliance
  • Manage cash flow, budget, credit, and internal controls
  • Guide financial planning and investment activities
  • Provide decision-support and forecasts
  • Supervise payroll, tax filings, and financial reporting
  • Evaluate and improve accounting practices
  • Maintain relationships with financial institutions
  • Ensure compliance with tax and legal regulations
  • Contribute to risk mitigation on projects
  • Forecast project cash needs
  • Negotiate and manage credit lines and bonding
  • Ensure liquidity and continuity
  • Support the Executive Director in strategic planning
  • Challenge assumptions, offer financial analysis

Qualifications

  • CPA designation (preferred) + Bachelor's in Accounting
  • 10+ years of accounting experience, including 5+ as Controller
  • IFRS knowledge; Construction or Hydro sector experience is a plus
  • Bilingual (FR / EN), MS Office proficiency

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work model : 2-3 days / week at the office located an hour south of Montreal.

Logistics & Work Status

  • Willingness to relocate to Greater Montreal (or south of Montreal) if outside the province.
  • Eligible to work in Canada without restrictions.
  • Occasional travel within and outside Quebec.
