The Finance Director will play a key leadership role in driving operational efficiency, cash flow management, risk management, internal controls and long‑term financial sustainability in a unique Arctic operating environment. This role requires a strong combination of technical accounting expertise, operational finance experience, leadership capability, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and entrepreneurial setting.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare the books for audit and consolidation.
  • Coordinate annual audits and work with external auditors.
  • Implement strong internal controls and policies.
  • Oversee full‑cycle accounting operations and lead the month‑end and year‑end close process.
  • Generate monthly financial statements and analysis.
  • Report monthly financial results to senior leadership, provide variance analysis and insights on risks and opportunities.
ERP and Systems Implementation
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, implementation, and optimization of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and financial management systems.
  • Act as the primary business lead for ERP implementation projects, coordinating with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and software vendors.
  • Analyze current financial and operational workflows to identify process improvement opportunities and system requirements.
  • Oversee data migration, chart of accounts design, system configuration, testing, and user acceptance processes.
  • Develop standardized financial processes, controls, and reporting structures across departments and operational entities.
  • Ensure ERP systems support multi‑entity operations, inventory management, project tracking, procurement, payroll integration, and operational reporting needs.
  • Establish reporting dashboards and KPIs to improve operational visibility and decision‑making.
  • Lead change management initiatives, including staff training, documentation, and adoption of new systems and workflows.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance within financial systems.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve financial technologies, automation opportunities, and reporting capabilities.
Risk Management & Governance
  • Develop and maintain enterprise risk management frameworks to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, regulatory, and strategic risks.
  • Monitor organizational exposure related to cash flow, seasonality, foreign exchange, supply chain disruptions, remote operations, and business continuity.
  • Oversee insurance programs and coordinate policy renewals, claims management, and risk assessments with brokers and insurers.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial, tax, employment, and regulatory requirements across all operating jurisdictions.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls, financial policies, delegation authorities, and approval processes to safeguard company assets.
  • Lead financial risk analysis related to capital investments, partnerships, contracts, and expansion initiatives.
  • Support development and implementation of crisis management, contingency planning, and operational continuity procedures.
  • Work closely with operational leadership to evaluate safety, contractual, reputational, and operational risks associated with Arctic tourism and expedition activities.
  • Provide regular risk reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, compliance, ethical conduct, and proactive risk awareness across the organization.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead finance managers/financial business partners.
  • Establish efficient workflows and accountability systems.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with operations, sales, marketing, HR, and logistics teams.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support senior leadership with strategic planning, operational analysis, and special projects.
  • Participate in senior management meetings and contribute to organizational decision‑making.
  • Develop and maintain financial and operational policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Negotiate and manage relationships with banks, lenders, insurers, vendors, and external service providers.
  • Support contract review and financial evaluation of major supplier, partner, and customer agreements.
  • Assist with grant applications, government reporting, and funding compliance where applicable.
  • Oversee corporate filings, licensing requirements, and annual compliance obligations.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, automation, and scalability.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, restructuring, or new business initiatives as required.
  • Ensure proper records management, document retention, and financial documentation practices.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on compensation planning, workforce budgeting, and payroll governance.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to finance team members.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the scope and seniority of the role.
