Job summary

Scotiabank seeks an experienced finance professional to contribute to Global Finance, Financial Accounting & Reconciliation in Canada. You will maintain ownership structures, oversee NCI records, and drive balance sheet analysis and SOX controls during close cycles.

You will collaborate with Finance teams, support audits, and guide junior staff while advancing continuous improvement initiatives and IFRS reporting. A CPA is preferred and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation completed or in progress is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in banking or financial services, with exposure to accounting, financial analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, internal controls, SOX compliance, audit support, and people leadership.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting requirements and accounting processes within a banking environment.
  • Experience executing and maintaining effective internal control frameworks and supporting internal and external audits.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take ownership of initiatives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Hands-on experience with PeopleSoft, Oracle Analytics/BI, and SmartView.
  • Experience with Alteryx, automation tools, or data analytics solutions is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and process optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the Bank’s legal entity ownership structure and hierarchy within financial reporting systems.
  • Manage and update Non-Controlling Interest (NCI) ownership records and continuity schedules to support financial reporting and analysis.
  • Review, analyze, and monitor balance sheet accounts to identify trends, variances, and potential risks.
  • Partner with Finance teams across the Bank to investigate and resolve balance sheet fluctuations and reporting issues.
  • Execute key SOX controls during month-end and quarter-end close processes to support an effective control environment.
  • Prepare reconciliations, reports, and supporting documentation for management, audit, and regulatory reviews.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by coordinating requests and providing timely, accurate documentation.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to team members and stakeholders on accounting, reporting, and reconciliation matters.
  • Lead or contribute to Accelerate the Close (ATC), automation, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and controls.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Finance and the business to support IFRS consolidated financial reporting.
  • Manage and develop a small team while fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Leverage tools such as PeopleSoft, Oracle Analytics/BI, SmartView, and Alteryx to support reporting, analysis, and process optimization.
