Job description

The Finance Controller will oversee all financial aspects of the business, providing accurate and timely financial reports, ensuring compliance, and improving systems to support project profitability, cash flow forecasting, and long-term strategic planning. You will work closely with the leadership team and support cross-functional departments, particularly in managing project budgets, cost tracking, and revenue recognition.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead monthly and annual financial closing processes, including preparation of financial statements, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, with a focus on project-level profitability and performance tracking.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures that support compliance and scalability.
  • Monitor and improve job costing, time tracking integration, and milestone-based revenue recognition across projects.
  • Partner with project managers and operations to track progress, review financial health, and provide strategic input.
  • Ensure compliance with tax filings, government remittances (GST / PST, corporate taxes), and audits.
  • Manage payroll oversight, accounts payable / receivable, and general ledger accuracy.
  • Support strategic initiatives including pricing models, cost analysis, SG&A review, and ERP system enhancements.
  • Implement & Maintain of Cost Accounting Model
  • Prepare and present financial performance reports for the executive team and board.

Qualifications :

  • CPA designation preferred (or equivalent experience in senior finance roles).
  • Experience of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a project-based business environment (e.g., signage, construction, architecture, engineering, or design services).
  • Strong knowledge of job costing, project accounting, and WIP (Work in Progress) management.
  • Experience with systems like Goldfinch (Salesforce-based ERPs), and time tracking software (e.g., Mission Control).
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead change and improve systems in a growing business.
