Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Finance Clerk is responsible for all areas related to financial reporting. The position is responsible for maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reports. The Finance Clerk will assist the Director of Finance and Administration in ensuring that work is properly allocated and completed in timely and accurate manner. The position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting and finance responsibilities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and support of budget and forecast activities.

Skills & Qualifications:
Candidates will be screened according to the listed criteria. It is the responsibility of the candidate to indicate that she/he meets the following criteria:

• Post Secondary Diploma- accounting and/or business-related courses
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience working with computerized accounting software
• Experience with budgeting, accounting and reporting systems
• Experience working in a First Nation is considered an asset
• Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office would be an asset
• Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively convey information and ideas to others both verbally and in writing
• Attention to detail; able to monitor the details with a high degree of accuracy

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the maintenance of all accounting functions of the First Nation and its corporate entities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, month and year end procedures, budget preparation and analysis, contract review and maintenance, reporting, administer payroll when necessary
• Identify, develop and implement work practices to reduce operational inefficiencies and improve systems
• Provide administrative support to ensure effective and efficient office operations
• Process purchase orders
• Attend meetings, training and participate in committees as required.
