Welcome to ourCommunity!

The Nicomen Indian Band is a Nlaka’pamux First Nation located in the Fraser Canyon region of British Columbia. With deep cultural roots and a strong connection to the land, we are dedicated to supporting the well-being, self-sufficiency, and cultural vitality of our community members. Through governance, economic development, education, and sustainable land stewardship, the Nicomen Indian Band is committed to building a thriving future for current and future generations.
Your Role in our Journey
As Nicomen Indian Band continues to grow and evolve, we’re excited to welcome a Finance Clerk to our team. This new role was created to support our expanding financial operations and ensure the smooth day-to-day processing of payroll and financial transactions that help our community thrive.
Reporting to the Band Manager and working closely with the Finance Officer, you’ll be a key part of our finance team—helping to maintain accurate records, process transactions, and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization. If you enjoy working with numbers, being part of a collaborative team, and want to build your skills in a meaningful setting, this could be a great fit for you.
This full-time, on-site role, is a fantastic opportunity to grow your experience in finance while supporting a community-focused organization grounded in Indigenous culture, values, and self-determination.
What You Will Do
Support our Band Manager and Finance Officer in building and rolling out the annual financial plan — helping us stay on track and aligned with our community goals.
Keep our day-to-day finance operations running smoothly by making sure transactions are entered accurately and on time so we meet our month-end deadlines without a hitch.
Dive into general ledger entries, journal entries, and bank and account reconciliations — making sure everything adds up and is recorded properly.
Help process accounts payable and receivable transactions, making sure vendors are paid on time and incoming funds are tracked and recorded with care.
Make sure staff reimbursements and invoices are paid accurately and follow our financial policies — because getting paid on time matters.
Help calculate salaries, pensions, and benefits, and double-check everything before payroll is processed — including things like deductions, payroll taxes, and remittances.
Collaborate with department leads to build out department budgets, review reports, and flag any financial surpluses or shortages early on.
Assist with compiling monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports that support clear and informed decision-making.
Work with the Finance Officer to review and strengthen our internal accounting systems, processes, and policies — and help get us audit-ready.
Keep our accounting files and records organized and confidential, and support sharing key financial info with leadership and Council when needed.
Jump in to support other finance-related tasks as they come up — we’re a team, and we work together to get things done.
What you bring
A deep respect for and understanding of Indigenous Peoples, their histories, cultures, traditions, and languages.
A genuine desire to support and uplift the Nicomen community through your work.
A Certificate or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field — or equivalent post-secondary education in business or finance.
Experience working with operational budgets and financial frameworks — and ideally, you’ve helped implement strategic financial plans before.
Strong skills with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and a high level of comfort using accounting software like Sage 50, QuickBooks, or PayWorks.
A working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Administration Law (FAL) — or an interest in learning more about them.
Solid hands-on experience in corporate accounting and payroll, with a track record of progressively increasing responsibility.
You are a strong communicator — whether it’s written or spoken, you get your point across clearly and respectfully.
You are organized, self-motivated, and know how to manage your time well (especially when juggling multiple priorities).
You have great judgment and aren’t afraid to make thoughtful decisions when needed.
You have handled sensitive topics like payroll, late timesheets, or payment delays with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality.
Details matter to you — you take pride in making sure everything is accurate and well-documented.
