Job description

As a Finance Assistant, you will be an integral part of our finance team, supporting various financial activities essential to the functioning of the school district. A key focus of this role will be managing Accounts Payable processes, including invoice verification, payment processing, and vendor communication to ensure timely and accurate payments. In addition to Accounts Payable, your responsibilities may include assisting with budget management, financial reporting, and general accounting tasks. You may also play a key role in the purchasing process by preparing purchase orders, tracking expenditures, and ensuring compliance with procurement policies. You will work closely with our Finance Managers and other team members to uphold the financial integrity of the school district.

Assignment: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm

Location : District Administration Centre, Nanaimo, with potential for p/t remote work option

Wage : $33.18 per/hr. with a competitive benefit and pension package

Your Education and Experience

  • High School graduation or the equivalent
  • Completion of a two year Business Diploma with a specialization in accounting plus five years experience in an accounting role or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum keyboarding speeds of 200 kspm and 50 cwpm.
  • Strong demonstrated computer skills including advanced spreadsheets and importing/exporting files to/from other sources.
  • Ability and aptitude to work with detail, precision, speed and accuracy and work effectively under pressure, high volumes and tight timelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, customer service and teamwork skills.

Purchasing Qualifications

  • Completion of a two year Business Diploma with a specialization in accounting plus five years experience in an accounting role or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • And/or a diploma/certification in Supply Chain Management with minimum of five years recent purchasing experience in a public or private sector purchasing department, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in issuing and awarding competitive procurements, and contract negotiation and preparation an asset.
