Job summary

YESAB (Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board) is seeking a Finance and Administration Manager in Whitehorse, Yukon. The role leads the Finance and Administration Unit, ensuring accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls while supporting strategic planning and budgeting.

The successful candidate will have CPA or comparable credentials, plus experience in contracting, purchasing, and financial systems.

Qualifications

  • CPA preferred or equivalent designation.
  • Experience in public sector or government environment is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of financial controls and internal auditing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead finance and administration unit and supervise staff.
  • Ensure timely financial reporting to senior management, Board, and auditors.
  • Provide financial analysis to guide strategic investments and budgeting.
  • Develop and oversee YESAB's budget, policies, and procedures.
  • Support funding and service agreement negotiations and contract management.
  • Oversee purchasing, asset management, and leases.
  • Contribute to long-term financial planning with senior management.

What’s YESAB?

The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) is an independent body established under the Umbrella Final Agreement and YESAA legislation in 2003. YESAB conducts environmental and socio-economic assessments of projects before they are approved by the governing body. Our purpose is to conduct neutral, timely, efficient and effective environmental and socio-economic assessments in the Yukon.

  • Designated Chartered Professional Accountant is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of contracting and purchasing methods and techniques.
  • Experience utilizing various finance and administration information management systems and/or software.
  • General knowledge of the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act, as well as Yukon First Nations and First Nations Agreements, is required.
  • Experience working in a First Nation government is considered an asset.

The Finance and Administration Manager, reporting to the Executive Director, is a part of YESAB’s senior management team and responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining a full range of financial and administrative services for the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB). Further, this position is responsible for:

  • Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting to senior management, the Board, funding agencies, auditors, and other relevant stakeholders, including coordinating YESAB’s audit processes.
  • Providing financial analysis, insights, and guidance to support decision-making on key strategic initiatives, investments, and resource allocation to improve financial efficiency.
  • Leading the Finance and Administration Unit, which includes supervision and coordination of tasks and schedules.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks through effective risk management strategies and internal controls.
  • The development and oversight of YESAB’s financial budget, policies, and procedures.
  • Supporting YESAB in funding and service agreement negotiations and managing resulting contracts.
  • Overseeing purchasing, asset and material management, as well as administrative responsibilities related to office and vehicle leases.
  • Contributing as a key member of the Senior Management Team and supporting the development of long-term financial strategies and objectives aligned with YESAB’s priorities.
