Job summary

STR8 UP: 10,000 Little Steps to Healing Inc. seeks a seasoned financial operations lead to manage accounting, payroll, and financial reporting for a nonprofit context in Saskatoon, Canada.

You will oversee budgets, cash flow, and compliance, while supervising staff and coordinating withexternal auditors. Strong accuracy, governance, and analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably nonprofit or with multiple funding streams.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and finance principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Reliable and accurate, with integrity and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner.
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting and payroll.
  • Experience in a dynamic, relationship-focused environment with diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance for nonprofits.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and advanced Excel; MS365 Teams/SharePoint experience.
  • Payroll systems and government remittances knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all financial operations, including accounting, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Support development, monitoring, and analysis of annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure effective financial planning and controls.
  • Manage general ledger accuracy and integrity of financial records.
  • Ensure timely accounts payable/receivable processing with reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and government remittances.
  • Lead year-end processes and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Oversee payroll processing, accuracy, compliance, and reporting.
  • Oversee benefits administration and related financial programs.
  • Supervise and support employees regarding financial processes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements with senior leadership and organizational software systems.
  • Maintain financial policies and internal controls.
  • Submit internal/external reporting; manage calendars and alerts.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support Leadership decisions.

Education

Job description


  • Responsible for all financial operations, including accounting, payroll, and financial reporting

  • Support the development, monitoring, and analysis of annual budgets and forecast

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports

  • Monitor cash flow and ensure effective financial planning and controls are in place and being followed

  • Manage the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial records

  • Ensure that timely and accurate accounts payable and receivable processes, including reconciliations, are being conducted in line with organizational policies and funding agreements

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and manage all government remittances

  • Lead year-end processes, including audit preparation and coordination with external auditors

  • Prepare payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting

  • Oversee the administration of employee benefits and related financial programs

  • Supervise and support all employees in regard to financial processes, providing guidance and oversight

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in collaboration with senior leadership team and existing organizational software and database system

  • Maintain financial policies and ensure compliance with internal controls

  • Submit internal and external reporting documents as required and maintain calendar invitations and alerts for these duties

  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support leadership decision-making

WHAT YOU BRING



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • 5–7 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within a nonprofit environment or an environment with comparable complexity of funding streams and timelines

  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and finance principles

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Previous supervisory experience

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Reliable and accurate, with a high level of integrity and accountability

  • Proven experience processing and overseeing full-cycle accounting and payroll functions

  • Experience and desire to work in a dynamic and relationship focused environment with people of diverse experiences and backgrounds

  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance requirements

  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations and requirements for nonprofits

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks accounting system and advanced Excel skills

  • Experience with MS365 Teams and SharePoint

  • Experience with payroll systems and government remittances
